August 1st

There are two entertainment anniversaries today. On this date (8/1), MTV made its debut and Rush Limbaugh hit it big with national syndication. MTV in 1981 and Rush in 1988.

1.) What was the first video played on MTV?
2.) What city was Rush born in?

Marty may not answer question #2.

UPDATE: I just learned that there are two acceptable answers to the MTV question. One for the US and one for Europe. They're two different answers and either will qualify you for a free soft drink from the bar.

Don't have much of a clue about either one, but I'll take a stab at the MTV one: "I Ran (So Far Away)," Flock of Seagulls?

"Video killed the radio star"

I have it on my Big 80's cd collection.

The Bungles sang "Video Killed the Radio Star" on MTV USA. Hint for the European MTV: He got his chicks for free.

"Money for Nothing," Dire Straits. I was going to say that, but didn't think it was a hit in '81 and besides, it seemed too obvious ("I want my MTV!"). We didn't have MTV then and don't have it now! Did we miss anything?

May I answer #2 yet?

OK, Marty, let'em have it. And I wish you had a blog! I want to hear about the town you grew up in.

Cape Girardeau for Rush.
No blog for me. I'm too self centered.

Another word on the town where I grew up.
Most people from St.Louis (not you)feel superior to people from small towns. It's a predjudice I have dealt with for many years and it's made me perhaps overly sensitive,
Just this morning at re-hab I purposely brought up a subject that would result in discussing locations. Two of the three people proved my point. Two adjectives were"stupid" and "stump jumper".
Of course, being timid and shy,I let it pass.NOT.
So most would be happier with their own ideas about small town living.

Dwight Eisenhower's biggest fear was that someone would discover he's just a country bumpkin. You'll likely never get over these emotions. Unless you start blogging at get them out!

I knew you were going to say that!!I admit it makes sense, but I'd quickly run out of things to say.
Wish I had a litle John Grisham's writing talent.
(He lived in a small town)
